On Monday 5th September 2022, at the Gosling Velodrome, in Welwyn Garden City, John Lee set a series of Veteran Time Trialing Association (VTTA) outdoor track records at the age of 93.
The following records were set:
As most will know, ‘The Hour’ is the blue ribbon event in the cycling world, with such greats as Chris Boardman, Bradley Wiggins and most recently Filipe Ganna holding the UCI records, with these records set in their twenties and thirties, and all have talked extensively about the hour of absolute suffering and mental determination to pace the effort in order to complete the full hour at a ‘threshold’ effort, so for a gentleman of 93 to achieve this benchmark is nothing short of astounding.
John was recently interviewed by BBC Look East about achievement, and put his longevity in the saddle down to sensible eating, maintaining a healthy mind and body, along with the support of a good club.
John, as Chair of Icknield Road Club, we salute and congratulate you on a life time of achievements!
